2018 Coloring contest winning entry by Dietrich Brase from Region 21.
can vote in the Symposium, enter the judges’ training
program to become a judge, participate in shows
and sales, provide programs to their club, and
many other activities. In fact, there are two youth
members in Region 7 who are garden/exhibition
judges. Our youth members are valuable members
of the American Iris Society and need our support
and encouragement. After all, they will be our future
leaders.
Are you planning on attending the 2019 AIS
National Convention in Northern California? I am
hoping that we will have a few youth members
from that area in attendance. If you happen to
see a young person in the garden, take a moment
to introduce yourself and get to know these kids.
Most of them are on the shy side, but they warm
up quickly when talking about their favorite flower,
the gardens they have visited, or the people they
have met. They are thrilled when they get to meet
a hybridizer whose irises they grow in their own
garden.
Until we all meet in a garden somewhere, happy
irising!
