REQUEST FOR GUEST BEARDLESS IRISES
2021 AIS Convention in Las Cruces, NM
The Mesilla Valley Iris Society is happy to be selected
to host the American Iris Society Convention from
April 12 through April 17, 2021.
Please observe the following guidelines when
sending beardless guest irises, as only officially submitted
rhizomes will appear in the AIS Convention Book.
Up to two rhizomes of each beardless variety (only
Louisiana and Spuria irises) will be accepted between
September 1 and September 30, 2018. Earlier blooming
varieties preferred.
Please ship plants to:
Roy Covey, Guest Iris Chairman
1955 Carlyle Drive
Las Cruces, NM 88005
The package should clearly be marked “AIS GUEST
IRIS.” The name of the variety or seedling number
should clearly be marked on each plant. In addition,
the following information should accompany each variety
on a separate packing list:
1. Hybridizer’s name and address
2. Name or seedling number of variety.
3. Type of iris (LA, Spu).
4. Height, color, distinguishing features
(photo if possible).
5. Year of introduction if applicable.
The packing list should include the hybridizer’s
email address to receive an electronic receipt. If a
guest seedling is named, it is the responsibility of the
hybridizer to notify the guest iris chairman no later
than January 2021.
Before the convention, hybridizers will be asked for
instructions for disposition of their plants. Named varieties
will be disposed as determined by the Convention
Committee. No rhizomes will be offered for sale
on the internet. Seedlings will be destroyed unless requested
back by hybridizers. Hybridizers that request
return of their plants will do so at their own expense.
The convention committee and the owners of the
host gardens will strictly adhere to the Code of Ethics
as printed in the AIS Convention Handbook. The
convention committee and the host gardens will not be
responsible for losses beyond their control. However,
hybridizers will be given the opportunity to replace
lost plants up to one year prior to the convention,
