2010 AIS Photo Contest information

AIS invites you to participate in our annual Photo Contest. This contest is free and open to everyone, with the exception of contest Judges and the contest chairperson who are not eligible to enter or win.

The 2010 winner of each category will receive a 2010 introduction from the Madison Area Iris Society (AIS Convention Host). They will also receive a single annual membership or annual membership extension to AIS. Winners who are AIS life members will receive an annual membership in an AIS Section of their choice. Runners-up of each category will receive an 2008-2009 introduction. The 2010 winning photo of each category will be published in the AIS Bulletin and on the AIS web site.

You may submit up to five photos in one contest. The deadline for submissions to the 2010 Photo Contest is June 30, 2010.

Irises in photos should be of the genus Iris. Entries will be selected and judged in six (6) categories:
1. Irises used in a landscaped garden.
2. Irises in a field or home garden.
3. Events, tours, a person or people (at iris location), shows.
4. Close up of an iris or irises.
5. Iris photos with art effects, macro photos of bloom segments.
6. Photos of pets, wildlife or garden art in the irises.

*** Any prints/digital photos taken by a youth photographer (under 19) in any of the six (6) categories will be judged separately from the adult entrants.

Please do not send any prints smaller than 5 x 7. We ask that your print submission be on photo paper. The digital photos should be 300 dpi, 4” x 6” in size, and saved as a ‘jpeg’ file. (Each image must be titled and numbered to match the entry form.) Make sure you identify the variety or person in each photo on the entry form. Please provide AIS with a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want the prints returned. Prints will otherwise not be returned and may be destroyed when not selected.

A panel of three judges will judge photos received and their decisions will be final. At the discretion of the judges, photos not selected in the current contest may be held for further consideration in future contests. Photo: by Lowell Baumunk of Colorado, taken at the 2006 AIS Convention, which was held in Portland Oregon and the surrounding area. This is one shows one of the host iris gardens, Mid America Garden, that was on tour during the convention. The photo is was also judged a winner in the "photos of events or shows" category of the 2006 AIS photo contest.
