May 31-June 5 2010 in Madison, Wisconsin

The Madison Area Iris Society invites you to enjoy Madison and the state of Wisconsin during the week of May 31st through June 5th, 2010 when we host the American Iris Society National Convention. We hope your Iris Madness brings you to Madison and Middleton for a great experience of 'Mad About Iris’ in 2010.

If you wish you may visit the organizers website: Madison Wisconsin AIS 2010 Convention (please note that this is not part of the AIS website, it is provided by the 2010 convention organizers)

Madison Area Iris Society (MAIS)
Our membership is a group of enthusiastic gardeners that grow many types of iris. If you like to grow irises and want to learn more about them and meet other enthusiasts, we invite you to join us. The Madison Area Iris Society (MAIS) is a nonprofit organization affiliated with The American Iris Society. MAIS is part of AIS Region 8, which is comprised of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The club is centered in Madison and includes south central Wisconsin. MAIS is a group of garden enthusiasts who promote the culture, appreciation and study of iris. MAIS members enjoy building friendships with other iris enthusiasts.

We hold special events including public shows, annual sale, tours and educational meetings. MAIS is a IRS section 501 (C)(3) tax exempt organization. Membership is $5.00 per year for individuals and $7.00 per year for families. Members who attend meetings can win free iris (and sometimes other gifts) in the monthly drawings.

The Madison Area Iris Society will be hosting the AIS National Convention in 2010. Convention beds have been planted and many of the other plans are well underway. Visit the convention website for future updates for this event.

The club garden is located on Skyline Drive in Stoughton. We have nearly 1,000 varieties of iris donated by several members in addition to the newly planted 250 convention iris. We have several group weeding events during the year, a great chance to visit with other members. The public is welcome to visit the garden in bloom in June.

Geek Dinner and Auction
Going to the AIS Convention? Sign up for the 2010 Geek Dinner!

This is a very popular event every year. Info on registering for the 2010 event is detailed below.
As usual, the registration for the Geek Dinner-Auction will be separate from the regular convention registration.

12th ANNUAL GEEK DINNER

Have you heard the rumors? The Geek Dinner is the place to be! Don’t know where to eat? Eat with the geeks and non-geeks that have learned what a fun time everyone has.

You don't have to be a computer Geek to attend. Join a bunch of great people for dinner. Not only will there be dinner and good conversation among iris friends but door prizes and an auction will be part of the entertainment.

After having spent your day getting off the tour bus and rushing around the garden trying not to miss anything...then back on the bus to the next garden to repeat the same thing again...what better way to end your day than a relaxed evening with friends at the Geek Dinner reviewing all those iris that are now on your "wish list."

First there is meeting with all your friends and then making new ones. If you happen to be a subscriber to one of the iris lists or electronic robins, you can meet other members and put faces to all those funny email names.

Then there is a great meal. We are still in the planning process for this but it will be great.

Then of course the real fun for the night… The Geek Dinner Auction where you get to bid on new iris introductions, gift certificates from commercial iris growers, and iris themed items. The proceeds from the auction go directly into the American Iris Society Electronics Services fund that sponsors such things as the digital projector for slide shows and the online iris databases.

Oh and of course some great doorprizes.

Now is the time to make plans for the, 12th annual Geek Dinner being held right in the convention hotel of the 2010 AIS National Convention. Meet new friends and catch up with old ones.

The tables always fill up fast and unfortunately pre-registration is necessary. PLEASE RSVP to Joanne Prass-Jones by Friday, May 21, 2010.

COST: $28.00 (not included in convention registration)
DATE: Friday, June 4, 2010

Room-share Connection:
Attending an AIS convention is a great way to meet new people and create lasting friendships. People who have become friends at a convention often make plans to attend the following year and spend time with each other, which can include sharing a hotel room to cut costs.

Karen Johnson, President of the Wisconsin Iris Society, has graciously consented to act as roommate go-between for the convention.

If you would like assistance finding someone willing to share a room, contact Karen with your planned arrival and departure dates and other pertinent information about yourself. She will put you in touch with any others looking for a similar room-sharing situation.

You’ll be responsible for contacting each other and working out the arrangements. Once you’ve completed your arrangements, please let Karen know to take your name off the list.

E-mail your information to Karen at snow.shoe@sbcglobal.net  or with the following information:

Karen Johnson, N66 W13530 Crestwood Drive, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051
